Trades Chosen Because The Valley Hires For Them
Kashmir's skilling offer was never assembled from what was easiest to teach. Fashion designing, retail sales associate, food & beverage and hospitality opened the account in 2016-17, and professional makeup artistry, bakery, chef & bakery, computer training and Front Office Associate training have been added since, each one against a recognised sector skill council standard. The Indian Army supplied the infrastructure and ONGC equipped the labs, which is why learners train on working kitchens, machines and computers rather than on a whiteboard.
- Fashion DesigningTailoring, embroidery and design, running in Baramulla, Boniyar and Uri.
- Retail Sales AssociateCertified retail training, strengthened in Kupwara by TRRAIN and IIFL.
- Food & Beverage, Bakery, ChefKitchen and service training with real equipment and on-the-job practice.
- Professional Makeup ArtistIntroduced with IIFL in Baramulla in 2024, against BWSSC standards.
- Front Office AssociateThe lead course in Srinagar from November 2025.
- Computer TrainingDigital literacy underneath every other trade, notably at Boniyar.

The Distance Between A Certificate And An Income
From 2018, with Genpact's support at the Chinar Yuva Club, the measure of success moved from courses completed to money earned. Livelihood enhancement asks what a household actually needs to earn more, employment links graduates to businesses that are hiring, and self-help groups give people no employer will hire a way to trade collectively instead. In Kupwara that work started with capital rather than a classroom: 20 families received ₹30,000 each through TYSIA and SIDBI in 2021.
- Employment PathwaysGraduates linked to employers who already hire for the trade they trained in.
- EntrepreneurshipSupport for home salons, boutiques, bakeries and small service businesses.
- Self-Help Group FormationCollective trading, pricing and shared accounts, largely women-led.
- Family Livelihood Assistance20 families in Kupwara supported with ₹30,000 each in 2021.

Skills That Convert Directly Into Independent Income
The trades that matter most for women in the valley share one property: they can be practised from home, from a rented chair or inside a self-help group, with very little capital. Fashion designing and professional makeup artistry both meet that test, and both serve demand that is real, year-round and largely women-led. Around them sit self-help groups that handle pricing, savings and shared accounts, work that has nothing to do with the craft and everything to do with whether the craft pays.
- Fashion DesigningThe longest-running women-led trade across Baramulla, Boniyar and Uri.
- Professional MakeupBridal and salon work, practised from home or a rented chair.
- Self-Help GroupsCollective enterprise for women with no formal work history.
- Enterprise & Livelihood SupportCosting, savings and market access after the training ends.

The Work That Has To Come Before Training
A young person in the middle of substance dependence cannot hold down a course, let alone a job, and a family without a roof cannot think about next year. From 2020-21 REACHA added a Drug De-addiction Centre and rehabilitation support in Baramulla, with counselling and a structured route back into training. In Uri, following an attack, three houses were constructed and one damaged house repaired, with skilling continuing alongside the rebuilding.
- Drug De-addiction CentreAdded in 2020-21 in Baramulla and sustained in the years since.
- Rehabilitation & CounsellingA structured route from dependence back into training and work.
- Community RehabilitationSupport for households carrying the cost of long-running disruption.
- Homes In Uri3 houses constructed and 1 damaged house repaired after an attack.

Somewhere To Belong, Not Just Somewhere To Train
Music was introduced in Baramulla in 2020-21, and it was not a diversion from the skilling work. In a district where young people had spent years with restricted movement and long stretches of nothing to do, an instrument and a practice room offered a reason to walk through the door. Attendance at one thing tends to bring attendance at another, and the centre became a place young people chose rather than a place they were sent.
- MusicIntroduced at Baramulla in 2020-21 and continuing alongside the trades.
- Constructive EngagementA reason to attend, in districts with few safe places to gather.
- A Gateway To SkillingYoung people who come for the arts often stay for a trade.

Training That Is Judged By Who Gets Hired
Career counselling has run alongside the technical modules since the first year rather than after them. Learners map their strengths against real openings, prepare documents, sit mock interviews and understand what a first job or a first order will demand of them. The trades themselves are picked for hiring depth: retail, hospitality and front office work are the roles valley employers fill continuously, and a candidate trained to their standard is a candidate they can use immediately.
- RetailCertified retail roles, with TRRAIN's sector expertise behind the training.
- HospitalityKitchen, service and housekeeping roles across the valley's hotels.
- Front Office AssociateThe role hotels struggle hardest to fill well, taught to standard.
- Placement-Oriented DeliveryDocuments, mock interviews and employer introductions built in.
